MIMA COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITING WORKSHOP AND TEACHING ARTIST TRAINING: Saturday Aug. 10th (Charlottesville)

Participants of the upcoming workshop will experience the MIMA Method and learn the basic principles of delivering the Method in MIMA classrooms. As such, the workshop is primarily intended for those interested in working as paid MIMA Teaching Artists. It may also be of interest to educators in the arts looking to expand their pedagogical repertoire and musicians interested in learning new approaches to collaborative songwriting. For everyone, we promise an engaging musical experience and the opportunity to meet like-minded creatives.

The half-day workshop will be led by veteran MIMA Teaching Artists. Over the course of the training, participants will produce and perform an original composition using the MIMA Method. Trainees will reflect on the songwriting process and engage in a discussion of the pedagogical principles of the MIMA Method and the various challenges they are likely to face applying the Method in the classroom. After completing the workshop, participants will receive preliminary certification as MIMA Teaching Artists, the primary requirement to work in the MIMA classroom.

The training is free to attend for selected applicants but space is limited.

Thanks in part to the support of Twice is Nice and the City of Charlottesville’s Vibrant Community Fund, MIMA has provided weekly music programs to the senior residents of a number of Charlottesville’s public housing communities like the Resident Songwriting Workshop every Friday in Crescent Halls.

As MIMA enters our 18th year of programming, we’re fortunate to be making Charlottesville our new home of operations (although we’ll continue our programming in New York!).

And we’re all the more fortunate to have received a generous grant from the Stranahan Foundation to expand our longstanding mission to engage and enrich communities through music improvisation and COLLABORATIVE songwriting programs. to ensure ongoing foundation support, help us “meet our match” !
